Lessons in Layering from Brora

Monday, January 9th, 2012

Have a look at our contribution to stylist website Dress Me Daisy on how to wear the layer look this winter. The site is all about giving great fashion advice by taking current looks and making them more accessible for ‘real’ British women.

Stylist Site

We submitted three perfectly layered looks that capture the season’s trends; two of which have even featured in our Style Stories section.

The looks personally chosen by Victoria Stapleton incorporate this years’ popular runway styles of striking colour-blocking, lavish textures and playful patterns dressed more simply for the modern woman.

Layering

Plus, we’ve included the practical but highly fashionable usage of accessories and how to apply them; as they too make great layering pieces.

Father’s Day

Friday, June 10th, 2011

When it comes to dishing out treats, it’s shameful to admit that too often we neglect our beloved dads. Have you noticed how yours is still gardening in the same old shirt he was wearing when you were small? Or, that one of the children pinched his favourite socks for a sleep over and lost them?

Luxury Clothing

It’s time to redress the balance. Father’s Day is a brilliant excuse to make a fuss of your wonderful dad and show him you love him by infiltrating his life and his wardrobe with a few special treats. And if saving up seems a challenge, don’t worry, you can enter our excellent Facebook competition and win your dad a beautiful cashmere blanket. What could be more spoiling for the man you love? But hurry, our competition ends on Monday at 11am.

Tired of seeing him in an old baggy jersey? Give him our gorgeous cashmere round neck, or the cotton and linen v neck that will see him through the summer and on into the autumn. Or how about a laid back linen shirt? The colours are divine and we have added a discount to a selection of mens’ clothing for a few more days.

Most important of all though, remember to give your dad a huge hug to make his Father’s Day .

Chelsea Flower Show

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

At Brora we are entering into the spirit of colour, florals, and the endless obsession with the weather that all culminate in the wonderfully British spectacular of Chelsea Flower Show.
Flower Show

Close your eyes and make your Brora wish list for Chelsea, The breeze can get chilly along Royal Hospital Road, a delicious gauzy stole should be your glamorous cover up.

Cashmere Wrap

This year, gardeners have had to think fast as the hot spell we have just had pushed spring forward 2 weeks, so look out for surprises in the planting at Chelsea.

Chelsea Show

The shoe question is always a challenge with a long day standing up and walking, and the answer comes in a pair of Brora espadrilles, perfect for an occasion where you might bump into anyone, Chelsea is attended by almost 160,000 people, and the tickets are re-selling now at astronomical prices, so hold on tight to yours! .

Ladies Espadrilles

As much a party as an opportunity to look at planting, we recommend a little splash of chic. Our bead necklace is a spritz of colour that works a treat with the stole above or with the lovely bold pattern of the vintage rose scarf.

And look out for the Chilstone Garden, a contemporary take on the folly by Helen Appleton if you want a surprise burst of bright colour!

Finally, the most important thing for the flower show mood is a hat, so make your mark this year with our beautiful evocative straw. And look out in the papers the next day, you may appear as just one of the beautiful blooms at the show…

Kew Gardens

Friday, May 13th, 2011

“I am his Highnesses Dog at Kew
Pray tell me, Sir, whose dog are you?”

Blue Blanket

This little ditty was engraved on the collar of a dog that the writer Alexander Pope gave to Frederick, Prince of Wales in the late 1700s. It’s just one of so many poems, paintings and creative outpourings inspired by Kew Gardens.

Why not make this the weekend to explore Kew with the children? Dress them in our summer hats and shorts, but add a cosy hoody in case the wonderful weather stops in its tracks (you never can tell in Britain) and make a day of it.

Childrens Cashmere

This weekend at Kew there are aerealists, (yes, we wonder what they are too) stilt walkers and a Japanese tea ceremony, among other exotic excitements as Kew celebrates the scattered places across the world that their wonderful plants come from. Take a picnic and have a summer day out and let your family’s imagination fly.
