Baby Delilah’s Photo Shoot

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

Our youngest model this season is 4 month old Delilah, who shows bonny Brora style already.

baby cashmere

cashmere bonnetDelilah’s mum Miranda has been dressing Brora shop windows for over 10 years, and now her beautiful baby girl is the icing on the cake and the face of Brora Baby Autumn 2010.

It seems that Delilah has inherited professional expertise and a sense of style from her mum. She takes to the lens like a true professional, modelling our cute butterfly baby grow with dash and aplomb, and teaming it with one of our favourite cashmere baby hats.

cashmere mittensThe June day we took these pictures had the usual British summer temperature highs and lows, reminding us its always vital to have some cosy cashmere to hand. Delilah certainly agrees, she is adorable and snug in these hand knitted mittens.

baby cashmereMuch of Brora’s baby cashmere is hand knitted in the Highlands. Out of our mill in Elgin, we have built a team of Scotland’s finest hand knitting ladies. Working from their homes they knit these unique garments for Brora babies and in doing so forge a link between timeless tradition and the modern enthusiasm for great quality and design.

The quality is exceptional, and the secrets of hand knitting to such a finish have come from generations of hands on expertise. Delilah may not know too much about this, but she seems to appreciate the effort our ladies have made for her.

babies cashmereWell, why not? We all know the phrase “throwing our toys out of the cot” and Delilah just wants to show us where it comes from…

baby blanketThere is nothing like a photo shoot to get hands on with the clothes, and to learn what works, and we all agree with Delilah that when you are wrapped in a Brora baby blanket, life is bliss.

Delilah was a dream to work with, and took to modelling cosy cashmere immediately. What did they say little girls are made of? “Sugar and spice and all things nice.” Delilah proves its true.

our challenge was to keep the cashmere on the children to shoot our Autumn/Winter 2010 catalogue.

Brora childrenswear

Here are some out takes to give you the mood and a sneak preview of the delights to come:

childrens clothingWe love the beads and neck warmer –as-hat together – Mums on the shoot were earmarking it as the perfect present for daughters and god children, so thank you girls for working this look so well!

children's cashmere cardiganIt was hot, but down in the woods we found a cool and mossy spot (ooops – just removing cake crumbs from the shot).

children's cashmereEven when they thought they were out of shot the children were adorable, sweet and VERY busy.

boys cashmereBoys love fishing, and their enthusiasm was infectious even when they only caught pond weed, and we are pleased to notice that the Brora clothes when tried and tested, soaked and crumpled, proved to be comfortable, robust and up to any challenge.

children's clothesAny super model will tell you, working in fashion has its moments, and princess melt down occured once or twice but the kids were absolute stars.

And boy do children have the right idea about relaxing!

AW10 Normandy Shoot – Victoria’s Thoughts

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Just back from shooting Autumn on the coast of Normandy. It was the first time we have shot a brochure on “foreign” soil for years. I refuse to fly anywhere for a shoot due to the amount of suitcases that would need packing to take all the kit. I wish I could say it was for solely environmental reasons but alas I am not that worthy……

My brother and sister in law bought a beautiful old wreck near the French coast some years ago and have slowly & considerately restored it to its former glory as well as adding a fair few “brocante” finds. The house is stuffed full of gems and every blink of the eye is worthy of a picture.

Despite the clear skies and sunshine it was extremely cold and windy. A boot full of Brora goodies was indeed useful and every scarf, glove and hat was “stolen” to make the whole thing possible! As we were shooting Autumn it didn’t matter. I think the model would have surely gone on strike should we have bought out an Autumnal swimwear range.

Here are a few out-takes from the shoot…

Cashmere was worn on both sides of the lens!

Cashmere accessories much appreciated on this chilly shoot

It wouldn't be a Brora shoot without a dog making an appearance!

Fun was had by all and let’s hope another great brochure is on its way…

Winter Collection Sneak Preview

Friday, April 9th, 2010

We have recently had a very exciting shoot in a dilapidated house off Brick Lane. This area of London is buzzing and the house where we shot looked like no one had touched the paint work since the 18th century – either that or it was very well faked. The floor boards all creaked and health & safety would have had a hay day.

We were shooting our fashion section for winter 10 and it is always quite fun to see how far you can push the Brora look without alienating our customers. We find it fascinating how you can make one outfit look so entirely different by changing the styling, the model, the location and the makeup. By the end of the day we felt that Margot, our gorgeous model was a dark haired Kate Moss and we can’t wait to put this brochure together.

Lara Stone Models Brora

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

With her famous curves, simmering sex appeal and her gapped teeth, the half-British, half-Dutch model Lara Stone is currently “the girl of the moment” (Karl Lagerfeld).

Lara Stone Vogue Cover

The 25-year old was proclaimed “the girl of the year” on the cover of December’s “Wonderful” issue of the British Vogue, French Vogue’s Carine Roitfeld dedicated an entire issue to her, she replaced Madonna as the face of the Louis Vuitton Spring Campaign and is featured in about every fashion magazine.

Lara, who now lives in London and is engaged to David Walliams of Little Britain fame, is the hottest model around with many references to Brigitte Bardot.

We discovered Lara a few years back when she modeled our Spring 2005 collection seen here:
